Lamont's political views were socialist. In a period of the 1930s he was sympathetic to Soviet communism, but never joined a Communist Person, & late come to reject his earliest views. Inside 1953 he published the pamphlet entitled How come We are non the Communist.

The leading advocator of civil rights, he served as a director of the American Civil Liberties Union from 1932 to 1954, and afterwards when chairperson until his demise, of the National Emergency Civil Liberties Committee, which with success challenged Senator Joseph McCarthy's senate subcommittee and more bureau. Within 1965 he secured the Supreme Court ruling against censorship of incoming mail by the U.S. Postmaster General. Inside 1973 he found across Freedom of Information Act requests that the FBI had been tapping his phone, & scrutinizing his income tax return and cancelled checks for Xxx years. His subsequent cause showed a surveillance experienced there is no justification around law, & placed precedent for more citizen's privacy rights. He too filed & won a lawsuit against the Central Intelligence Agency for opening his mail.

His best known book is probably A Philosophy of Humanism, which is considered a definitive learn of the humanitarian philosophy. An additional contribution to a field was the 1935 book A Illusion of Immortality, which was the revised version of his Ph.D. thesis. Charted the deaths of his parents Lamont became a altruist. He funded a collection & preservation of manuscripts of Our contries philosophers, particularly George Santayana. He became the material donor to each Harvard & Columbia. When you took a Sixties he & Margaret got divorced, & he married creator Helen Boyden, world health organization died of cancer around 1975.
